Stephanie Fishwick is an artist and calligrapher working with clients worldwide. Founded in 2012, her studio first gained recognition for her intricately collaged and calligraphed invitations for notable tastemaker and entrepreneur Lauren Santo Domingo, her brand Moda Operandi, and Kerry Joyce, one of America’s leading interior designers. Special projects for weddings, royalty, celebrities, and top fashion and lifestyle brands soon followed.
Her artwork now extends well beyond events — adorning couture and ready-to-wear, wallpaper, tableware, luggage, jewelry boxes, and stationery sets. Most recently, Stephanie has expanded her practice into cartonnage: handcrafted keepsake boxes and books. Rooted in traditional calligraphy and collage techniques, her work draws from a constellation of references: fairy tales, dark romanticism, the golden age of lettering, antique lithographs, comics, vanitas, flowers, film, fashion, and music — which she renders through a range of calligraphic styles, inks, botanical clippings, paper, and digital collage.
Stephanie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. After working as a graphic designer in Washington, DC and Charlottesville, she purchased calligraphy tools at a small shop in Paris and was hooked; formal instruction followed with Master Calligraphers, including former Chief White House Calligrapher Pat Blair. She lives in Charlottesville with her husband James, son Jarvis, and their Scottish fold cats.
